An Islam Makhachev vs Conor McGregor boxing match will not happen. McGregor is finished at the elite level and the sport has moved on.
Conor McGregor got another injury recently in a MMA and UFC fight, he cannot hack the pace or nature of the highest level of professional combat sports anymore.
Clearly. Neither can Dmitry Bivol. Both their bodies keep breaking apart lately, time and time again.
Despite McGregor being interested in professional boxing, like many MMA and UFC fighters are at the moment, due to boxing expanding all the time, it is not happening.
Some notes on it;
- Makhachev said McGregor is dangerous only for one round.
- McGregor’s cardio has been a liability for years.
- McGregor has not won since 2020 and has been inactive in boxing since the Floyd fight many years ago at this point.
- Apparently he has one fight left on his UFC contract.
- The UFC has little incentive to allow the boxing match.
- Makhachev is focused on his own title reign.
- McGregor’s durability has declined in recent performances.
It sounds like a big novelty fight to make on paper in boxing, and it is, but Conor McGregor is cooked, done at the highest level, rest assured.
He ain’t coming back.
Boxing is, and, continues to do so, as a sport, though.
