Comeback season time for former heavy champion Andy Ruiz as he returns to big time boxing on Saturday night.
The comeback had been inevitable of course.
Ruiz is still the only Mexican champion in the heavys of all time.
He must be careful on Saturday though, some things to note here;
- Ring rust – Two years inactive; cannot afford a slow, sluggish start
- Knyba’s massive reach – Must not get picked off outside his range
- Fading late – Cannot gas out after a fast start; needs sustained output
- Half-hearted mindset – Full commitment required; no “one foot in” excuses
- Getting drawn into a brawl – Must box smart, not recklessly chase a KO
- Complacency – Cannot treat this as a guaranteed win or stepping stone
- Re-injuring his hand – Must throw carefully after recent surgery
- Assuming the new deal guarantees a title shot – A loss kills his relevance
- Looking sluggish – Weight and mobility will be under heavy scrutiny
- Disappearing again after the fight – Must stay active regardless of the result
Andy Ruiz has trained solidly for the fight, certainly his pounds and calories are a lot less than they had been in years gone by.
But that does not mean his timing and reflexes shall be there straight off the bat.
If he gets the ring rust off a little in round one and after that, he should have enough ability to be victorious easy enough but this is the heavys, after all.
Just one punch changes it all over night.
Andy Ruiz Jr great proof over the years of course, that Joshua knockout still one of the greats of all time.
