Teofimo Lopez is focusing on track work for Rolly Romero. Is this the right thing to focus in on for his fight on Saturday, maybe, maybe not.
If it helps him as an athlete that is not a bad thing, sure.
But in one breath he is saying he is focusing more on his boxing technical departments, then he is saying the track is his most focus ahead of the fight.
So there is a bit of grey area in Lopez’ talk, again, in this fight.
Some notes on the above regarding track training for Rolly Romero;
- Running means fighting not to lose, not to win
- You can’t win rounds by backpedaling
- Rolly will cut off the ring and corner him
- Running gives Rolly confidence to throw bombs freely
- Great footwork is for setting traps, not fleeing
- He needs to hold his ground to score points
- Single punches + retreat = losing strategy
- Pivoting is better than backpedaling
- Running invites Rolly to plant and swing
- Verdict: footwork helps only if used offensively, not defensively
Teofimo Lopez is not really thought of for his defense and running ability in the ring, either, at his peak he had been very offensive.
This is almost playing against his strengths in a sense.
He should be coming in there all guns blazing in theory as he is fresher at 147 pounds and moving up in division.
His mentality, his training and his game plan are suspect here for Rolly Romero on Saturday night.
