Does Teofimo Lopez have the knockout power to trouble Rolly Romero at 147lbs? He could do.
Then again, he could be done at the highest level too.
Some think the latter and Rolly Romero appears genuinely very confident for the fight on Saturday.
Some things on this ahead of Saturday night on the Lopez punching sting in the division:
- Power faded noticeably from 135 to 140
- At 140, he never hurt anyone of note (even against Taylor, no KD)
- At 147, he’s fighting a natural, bigger welterweight
- Rolly won’t respect his touch and will walk through shots
- He’ll rely on speed and points, not one-punch power
- His physicality advantage is completely gone
- Rolly is “too big, too strong” for his power to deter
- Moving up to avoid weight cuts doesn’t add knockout force
- He can outbox Rolly but won’t keep him off with power
- Verdict: no, he lacks the pop to trouble a true 147-pounder
Rolly is the hitter in the boxers more than anyone at that division and he is going to be up for this fight big time.
He surely is looking to prove getting the belt last year against Ryan Garcia had not been a fluke.
Teofimo Lopez talks tough but it is coming to the moment of truth for him on Saturday night.
