Ahead of his August 22 fight with Teofimo Lopez, Rolly Romero labeled Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn “juice heads.” Both have failed drug tests, making his accusations difficult to dismiss.
Is he making any points that people might agree on though, he may have some, he may not.
Some things to consider on this;
- Romero made the “juice heads” comment while dismissing questions about Garcia and Benn, saying both men ducked him
- Ryan Garcia tested positive for ostarine–a banned PED–after his April 2024 win over Devin Haney
- Garcia was suspended for one year and his victory was overturned to a no-contest
- He was also stripped of over $1 million in winnings
- Conor Benn failed two drug tests in 2022 for clomifene–a female fertility drug that can boost testosterone
- Benn’s scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr. was canceled as a result
- Benn’s tests returned “trace amounts” of the banned substance, which he blamed on contamination
- Benn was never formally banned or fined and has maintained his innocence
- Garcia was also suspended for racial slurs, though that ban has since been lifted
- Romero’s accusation lands as Garcia and Benn prepare to fight–a match between two fighters with documented doping history
The Ryan Garcia test had been trace amounts though before the Haney fight though.
Both Garcia and Benn maintain their innocence to this day, also, furthermore, for balance.
Romero should consider that himself ahead of the Teofimo Lopez fight and concentrate on the fight ahead of him on Saturday night.
