- Followed the jab with straight rights and left hooks to score cleanly
- Used shoulder-roll defense to slip and avoid Salas’ punches
- Maintained good lateral footwork to keep Salas chasing
- Clinched effectively to smother Salas whenever he got inside
- Leveraged his reach advantage all night
- Stayed disciplined and never deviated from the game plan
What He Did Wrong Technically
- Lacked killer instinct; didn’t press for a stoppage when he had Salas hurt
- Clinched too frequently, which killed the flow and pace of the fight
- Rarely stood his ground to exchange or take risks
- Kept the same rhythm and range without adjusting or adding variety
What He Can Improve On
- Add more punch variety (uppercuts, body shots, feints)
- Take more calculated risks to finish hurt opponents
- Reduce over-reliance on clinching when opponents get inside
- Increase output and urgency against lower-level opposition
- Develop better inside fighting ability instead of always tying up
- Throw more combinations rather than single punches
Alas, all and all, what Richardson Hitchins was able to do off the back foot was outstanding.
He was able to land shot uppercuts on the inside, even off the back foot at times.
Very sharp, short, effective point scoring shots.
Very relaxed and moved from the backfoot onto the front foot effortlessly at times.
Only a very smooth boxing operator can achieve that. He goes to the body and head very well as well at times, mixes up his attacks well.
Boxes at a pace he wants to control in the fights and that is an advantage to him.
He can still improve on much per the above though.
