It is the big Errol Spence s Tim Tszyu fight on Saturday in Australia but something seems off in Texan Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence.
He looks very all over the place and disinterested to say the least.
He is on the ground in Australia a bit and had received the welcome from them but some things to note on this so far this week:
- Spence appeared disengaged and nearly asleep during Indigenous Welcome to Country ceremony in Sydney
- He only gave a lukewarm response, saying the reception “woke me up a little bit” after his long flight
- He erupted over Tszyu’s handshake attempt, refusing twice and declaring he will never shake his hand
- The snub stems from Tszyu’s “retina” comment, where Tszyu said he wanted to “take my eye”
- Trainer Ronnie Shields admits he “put Spence through hell” in camp, with Spence wanting to go home at times
- Despite the brutal camp, Spence looks uninspired, showing little fire or aggression
- His team briefly lost contact with him before the flight, fearing he might be a no-show
- Tszyu branded Spence “rattled” after their tense face-off, claiming he’s mentally shaken
- Spence dismissed Australian fans, saying he doesn’t care about their perception
- The three-year layoff and lifeless arrival suggest a fighter who may not be up for this challenge
It is weird with Errol Spence lately.
He almost looks sometimes if he is either about to fall asleep or start to cry.
For a guy coming into the biggest test of his life in boxing this weekend he does not strike us as prepared.
He looks far from his days fighting Terence Crawford.
