In the latest tale of yet another woe for one of the old 4 boxing sanctioning bodies and title belts — a big name has rinsed them again.
Not for the first time either.
That is American former pound for pound number one boxer in the world, Terence Crawford of Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
Who retired undefeated last year after defeating Mexican star Canelo Alvarez at super-middleweight in Las Vegas.
He let one of the old belt companies have it afterwards, refused to pay their sanctioning bodies after the fight and retired.
He has not boxed since.
He came off the better from that. Clearly.
Now, he has mentioned that one of the old belt companies is trying to punish current American pound for pound star Shakur Stevenson.
Stevenson had one of their ‘belts’ and now worthless defunct ‘titles’ stripped from him earlier this year.
Crawford mentioned he thought this was to do with the issues that they had with him and were taking it out on Stevenson.
Whatever the case might be, it does not matter.
The consumer and spectators of boxing not just in America but worldwide do not care about the old four boxing belt companies anymore.
They only care about great fights and that is what is happening regularly anyway in the sport all the time.
That is why boxing is doing well again.
Of which Shakur Stevenson is part of the conversation in daily in as well.
It has not effected New Jersey’s Shakur Stevenson in any way. If anything it has helped him.
All the time now Stevenson is being talked about in big fights in America and worldwide.
He is coming off his most impressive win to date as well after defeating New York’s Teofimo Lopez last time out by unanimous decision on points this year.
So how has it effected him?
It has not.
Just another hard evidence and tangible proof that the old 4 boxing belt companies are done.
Boxing continues to move on and return to the masses and Stevenson will at least try to be in a big fight next up.
Although it looks like Shakur Stevenson is ducking Devin Haney in an all-American boxing clash at the moment.
Alas, Terence Crawford pound for pound former number one — does not need to be concerned for Stevenson as he can still be in big fights.
