Errol Spence looks to be making crucial errors in his preparation ahead of his big comeback fight this summer with Tim Tsyzu.
There are technical errors in his boxing that he is making with Ronnie Shields as well but let us come back to that.
Shields does not look like the trainer of old as well from years ago and looks in massive decline as a high level professional boxing coach in the sport at this point.
There are a few things with Errol Spence going on here.
One, he does not have anything near the eye of the tiger that he needs in his training and his life at the moment for a fight of this size.
He is too laid back, too relaxed and almost switched off to the brutal reality that lies ahead of him.
Tim Tszyu is switched on and the Australian is laser focused for their summer fight on July 25th.
Spence looks too dosile and has no energy or real energy or attack about him.
Not good enough at that level and he has been off for three years and needs to show more urgency in his work both on the pads and on the heavy bag.
The main error we see is the bulk he has put on is mostly in the upper body and he looks disproportionately out of balance in this regard, with not having strong enough legs underneath him.
This will effect not only his speed but his balance in the ring, and his timing, his speed of foot and speed of hands we mean, as well, both crucial.
This is at a catchweight as well which will suit the more active boxer in his Australian foe who is motivated for this as well, he has competed near 155 pounds over the years and the fight is just a few pounds above that basically.
Spence when he did box over three years ago was a welterweight and 147 pounds is different to the power at this catchweight and he looks too rigid and not mobile enough with the bulk on him in the upper body.
This is not suited to professional boxers.
On that occasion three years ago above as well Spence was brutally knocked out by Terence Crawford and has not fought since, until now.
Finally, for now, the Errol Spence gas tank and cardio looks horrendous in training as well. He is clearly tired in between rounds at the end of the sparring footage shown so far. Gasping for air at the end of each round.
The card though is solid and the likes of Jermall Charlo will also fight on it this summer.
