Tarae Stevenson has been around in boxing for a while now but those new to the sport may not known him and he’s making moves.
Tarae Stevenson is actually the cousin of current pound for pound rated fighter Shakur Stevenson.
He is a young trainer in the sport and now training Ray ‘Savage’ Ford at the moment.
Here’s some background on him:
- Tarae has a kinesiology degree and started in 2019.
- He took over the James Prince Boxing Gym in 2022.
- Tarae was Shakur’s strength coach before boxing coach.
- Ford joined Tarae’s team Jan 2024 after Ball loss.
- Tarae caps sparring at 30 rounds per week.
- He uses WHOOP and GPS to manage training load.
- Tarae trains 4 national Golden Gloves champs.
- Ford has gained 8 lbs of muscle under Tarae for 130.
- US heavyweight Jared Anderson left Tarae however in late 2025.
- Tarae’s mitt work improved Ford’s left uppercut some believe.
A character in the sport not really that well known and appears to have come into boxing through Stevenson and their mutual friend and colleague James Prince, who is a boxing manager in the sport.
The gym where he trains is from James Prince where Shakur Stevenson often also trains and spars in.
He’s only in his early 30s as well so is a very young trainer in the sport.
He’s getting Ray Forde ready at the moment for a world title fight as things stand at the moment.
Forde takes on O’Shaquie Foster at the end of the month.
