The Daniel Dubois vs Wardley scorecards make for intriguing viewing at the time the contest was halted in round 11.
Dubois had to come back in the fight from being knocked down early on.
Which he did, and boxed better than Wardley as well as out slugging and out fighting him.
The truth was he was a more accurate and a slightly busier boxer as well of the two.
Here’s what we know on the Daniel Dubois vs Wardley post-fight:
- Fight ended by TKO in round 11, so no final judges’ scorecards were read
- Referee Howard Foster stopped it at start of round 11
- Dubois was knocked down in first 10 seconds of round 1
- Dubois was down again on one knee in round 3
- Wardley was bleeding heavily from bridge of nose by round 6
- Wardley’s right eye was almost closed when fight was stopped
- Dubois “pulverised Wardley” after the early knockdowns
- Dubois came close to a stoppage in round 6
- Wardley refused to capitulate despite taking “tremendous beating”
- Some viewers felt stoppage “could have been stopped earlier”
As well, not many have picked up on the fact all three judges’ had the fight scored more or less the same in favor of Dubois at the time of stoppage:
Per-round scores (all 3 judges the same):
- Round 1: Wardley 10 – Dubois 8 (Dubois knocked down)
- Round 2: Wardley 9 – Dubois 10
- Round 3: Wardley 10 – Dubois 8 (Dubois knocked down)
- Round 4: Wardley 9 – Dubois 10

- Round 9: Wardley 9 – Dubois 10
- Round 10: Wardley 9 – Dubois 10
Totals after 10 rounds: Wardley 92 – Dubois 96.
So Dubois was going to win anyway — but he took the decision out of the hands of the judges.
All in all, Daniel Dubois became more of a draw in US boxing after this weekend.
