There was limited Daniel Dubois talking with his opponent or media at the final face off at the weigh-in for the heavyweight title fight.
This was a good thing we believe for Dubois. A silent man by nature but more so than ever before this time.
You can tell he is ready to go and let rip now. Wardley on the other hand took the mic and did most of the talking.
Here’s why the lack of Daniel Dubois talking ahead of the fight is not nerves and more to his advantage:
- Dubois is naturally quiet. Promoters say he’s not like Fury at press events.
- He looks intimidating without talking. He stares at Wardley instead of speaking.
- He likes being the underdog. Oladipo said Dubois “likes the idea of being an underdog”.
- His answer is brief and focused. Asked how he wins, he said “By any means necessary”.
- He saves energy for the ring. Observers say he avoids talking “so as not to burn precious energy”.
- He’s done it before vs AJ. Dubois barely talked, then KO’d Joshua in 5 rounds.
- He looked menacing at face-offs. He glared at Wardley “desperate to let his fists do the talking”.
- He admits he’s uncomfortable talking. Riakporhe said “he seems uncomfortable talking”, not scared.
- He believes he already beat Wardley. Dubois: “I dominated him in the spars… I’m going to be doing it again”.
- Not engaging helps him. Wardley uses mind games. Dubois staying quiet denies him the back-and-forth.
Happy fight day. There’s nothing like a heavyweight title fight day and night and weekend.
Expect real carnage in the fights today, tonight and this weekend.
Some great fights in store.
