Claressa Shields’ Adrien Broner character reference on who she says he is is a glowing reference on the surface of it.
Adrien Broner is a four-weight world champion. People forget that.
There’s not many in professional boxing history who’ve ever actually achieved that.
David Benavidez who had a big win at the weekend just gone on Cinco De Mayo became a three-weight world champion but Broner is a four-weight world champion.
‘AB’ is a world champion at super-lightweight, lightweight, super-featherweight and a welterweight world champion.
He would be a five-weight world champion if not for missing out on a world title at 140 pounds (super-lightweight).
Broner is in an elite club in boxing history but he has spiralled into oblivion with alcohol in recent times. Women’s boxing champion Claressa Shields said of him on the X platform:
“One thing I will say is… AB ain’t never been no bad dude for real. He always been real, with a good heart,”
Sure. Broner is the same guy who has been in trouble with the law and behind bars more times than we can recall.
He’s also the same guy that assaulted an unsuspecting civilian on the Las Vegas strip with a sucker punch.
It remains to be seen whether Broner will come back to boxing but we don’t believe he will.
For those new to the sport of boxing, here are some things to note on Broner.
