Shane Mosely junior returns to the ring this weekend. Learn more about how he compares to his father ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley.
Mosley senior is a multi-weight world champion in the sport and one of the best American boxers in recent times.
His son is trying to forge his own path, far from the standard of his father at present.
Here’s some notes on how they match up, the son and father:
- Different build: Jr is 6’1″ with 77″ reach; Sr was 5’8½” with shorter reach
- Different stance: Jr fights orthodox, Sr was orthodox too
- More of a boxer, less power: Jr has 44.44% KO rate vs Sr’s 41 KOs in 49 wins
- Uses height/reach: Jr is much taller and possesses a greater reach, which he uses effectively
- Jab-focused: With a powerful jab, Mosley Jr. is known for targeting the body with heavy shots
- Not the speed/power combo: Analysts say the comparison has proven difficult between Jr and Sr
- Same family corner: Trained by his dad Shane Mosley Sr
- Less explosive: Jr typically begins aggressively, but as the rounds progress, he is often seen running out of gas
- Mid-range specialist: Very effective in the mid-range, landing his punches, then tying opponents up
- Same heart: Jr said he got punched in the mouth and loved it when he chose boxing in the beginning
Overall, we don’t think he boxes like the father.
Mosley senior was shorter, more powerful and hit much more powerfully. He achieved far more than the son.
He was in far bigger fights. By a country mile.
Like the father though he does have good durability and chin though.
Here’s a look at our strengths and weaknesses assessment of Shane Mosley Jr.
