This month the heavyweight champion will fight a proper professional fight against a kickboxer called Rico that is an unknown in high level boxing.
It gets worse now though.
He is expected to win at the Pyrimads easily against Rico but now he’s looking at another low key fight after in Germany later this year against another very easy fight for him.
What has got into him recently?
He seems spooked, emotional in the gym and his strange opponent choices are not like him.
Usyk previously had fought everybody all over the world and is still undefeated. Often beating people bigger than him, with him as an underdog even, in countries all over the world.
He looks to be not acting himself lately.
You can tell.
He is in the home stretch of his run in boxing and maybe he’s just cashing out for easy money and easy fights.
Possibly.
What a garbage way to end his career and time in the fight game though.
That will tarnish his legacy if he takes two or even three very easy fights against unknown opponents as his last opponents.
Someone like Moses Itauma as well would do far bigger numbers and have way more interest not only to boxing fans but to the casual sports fan than the people he is fighting this month and looking at after then next this year.
His credibility in boxing has gone way down and now for us Naoya Inoue is pound for pound number one after defeating Junto Nakatani at the weekend.
A multi-weight world champion opponent choice for Inoue — a big differenc from Usyk’s opponent choice of Rico and another low key fight in Germany he’s looking at after that.
Here’s the reasons fans call Usyk vs Kabayel “trash” after Rico:
- Even Usyk sounds unenthused.
- Verhoeven isn’t a real boxer: Rico has only 1 pro boxing fight.
- Not in Usyk’s plan: Usyk said his final fights were Verhoeven, Wardley/Dubois winner, then Fury.
- Forced mandatory: WBC says fight Kabayel or vacate the belt.
- Two easy fights back-to-back: Verhoeven then Kabayel looks like ducking.
- Usyk already cleaned out the division: He’s 6-0 vs Joshua, Dubois, Fury.
- Too easy a fight for Usyk.
- Kabayel’s resume is thin: Best wins are Zhang, Sanchez, Makhmudov — no top 3 guys.
- Boring style matchup: Two technicians. Fans expect a slow fight in Germany.
- Fury 3 and Itauma has more demand: People still want the trilogy more than Kabayel.
Alas, shocking stuff from Usyk lately what is going on with him at all.
He seems emotional in his training as well ahead of an easy fight this month.
Usyk has always been strange but something is up with him.
