A look at Boxing News and Views’ David Benavidez vs Ramirez fight analysis and breakdown ahead of the big Cinco De Mayo 2026 weekend title fight.
It is carnival time in Las Vegas for Cinco De Mayo boxing 2026 weekend with David ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez headlining for it.
There is much on the line for both but keys to victory could be varied for either boxer in this.
Both will be relatively strong for the fight and it is important to realize that this fight is cruiserweight which only just below heavyweight so fans should get their money’s worth in terms of entertainment of big punches being thrown and landed.
The output of both boxers could be a bit different though. Benavidez throws a lot more than Ramirez but cruiserweight champion Ramirez should punch with more power.
This is what we think is key to victory if he can use all means at his disposal to force his fight upon Benavidez where power and size will be to his advantage.
Accuracy as well of course is something he will surely be looking at as a key to victory to him and something the judges’ ringside will be keeping an eye on. Just because someone throws a lot of punches like Benavidez doesn’t mean that automatically gives him the nod in the judges’ eyes who are scoring the fight.
It is the punches that are landed in the fight that counts.
Punches landed are crucial and Ramirez must look to be more accurate in his work over Benavidez to catch the eye for what should be more powerful punches.
Benavidez on the other hand must use his speed and work rate to his advantage in the fight and look to both land and accumulate many scoring punches to body and head on the large foe who should be a bit slower than him leaving him open to combinations.
Combination punches are key for Benavidez and he can’t throw single punches and expect to get the job done easily with the larger boxer and the champion.
He needs to win the title outright against Ramirez and not dance to his tune and right away set out his stall that this is how it will be from round one.
Again, we think particularly for Benavidez, if he were to get off to a fast start in the fight, this would be a very big thing in the overall Benavidez vs Ramirez full fight duration if it were to go the full twelve rounds.
Ramirez can be a little slow and if Benavidez can get in there right away with speed from the get go and start fast with his work rate he can carry this trend through the entire fight and make it a big win for him if he stays switched on at all times in there for the full 12 rounds.
We think the Benavidez vs Ramirez full fight is more possible to go the distance but never say never on a KO, both boxers hit with a lot of power in there up at cruiserweight.
The occasion and atmosphere should charge both as well to add a bit more mustard on the shots.
Roll on.
As for the winner, Jai Opetaia has called out the winner of Ramirez vs Benavidez — a good possible fight.
