Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney Allegedly In Surprise Fight Talks

Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney are supposedly in surprise new fight talks which is an intriguing development in boxing.

It isn’t Haney vs Garcia 2 and it isn’t Tank vs Stevenson but it is still a solid fight.

Some are suggesting on social media that Netflix maybe interested in staging the fight.

The two of them represent two of the better boxers in America today and are part of the new generation of young American world champions.

For those new to the sport, who might not have heard of either, here’s some background info on both.

    He won a silver medal for Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics as a bantamweight. That’s where most fans first heard his name.

    Born Devin Miles Haney, Nov 17, 1998 in San Francisco, California. Fights out of Las Vegas now. Nickname is “The Dream”.
  2. Started young, started in Mexico
    Turned pro at 17 and couldn’t fight in the U.S. yet, so he built his record fighting in bars and pool halls in Tijuana. Went 13-0 outside the U.S..
  3. Orthodox boxer-puncher
    Fights right-handed in an orthodox stance. 5’9” with a 72” reach, so he’s long for the weight.
  4. Became youngest undisputed champ of the four-belt era
    At 23 he beat George Kambosos Jr. in Australia to unify all the belts at lightweight. First to do it at 135 lbs since the four-belt era started.
  5. Elite amateur background
    Reported amateur record of 138-8. Won U.S. Junior Nationals in 2014 and 2015, beating Ryan Garcia twice.
  6. Pro record: 31-0 with 1 no-contest
    31 wins, 15 by KO. The only blemish is a 2024 fight vs Ryan Garcia that was changed to a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.
  7. Road warrior
    Won his undisputed titles by going to Kambosos’ home country of Australia and beating him twice there. His dad Bill said “We made our bones in Mexico… nothing is gonna surprise us”.
