Oleksandr Usyk is much more than just a boxer.
Much more than even a world champion even. More than even a heavyweight King and pound for pound (current for now) King by the way.
Some might have been surprised by his recent new promotional company in the sport, prospects for now mostly it looks like.
Others before that would have been surprised by his choice of Deontay Wilder as a possible selection for a mandatory opponent.
But the real surprise was the choice of a kick boxer with a 1-0 pro boxing record as his next actually professional boxing opponent.
The fight will of course go on his professional record and is at heavyweight.
To compound that, the fight is taking place in Egypt in Africa this summer.
Recently Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson confirmed they will shock the world with a big boxing exhibition in Africa in the Congo this April.
But to bring a genuine heavyweight champion fight in boxing to Egypt to the Pyramids is a real statement not only for boxing.
Showcasing the best fighter in the world in the sport pound for pound at the moment, and the undisputed heavyweight champion at the same time in Usyk, at an iconic symbol on Earth like the Pyramids, but it is a statement for Usyk personally as well.
A continued proof that he is willing to go anywhere around the world and fight anyone.
Having battered the best fighters around the world all over the world up until now to remain undefeated.
Now he’s going to Africa.
A true world champion.
Powerful message.
Internationally flying and battering opponents all over the world — hence the term ‘world’ heavyweight champion being apt for him.
Boxing’s audience and brand expands again of course into Africa this summer.
And in April as well with Tyson vs Mayweather in the Congo.
As for Usyk — he’s the King of boxing and returns soon — roll on.
