As the fight gets closer all the pressure mounts on Ryan Garcia.
That is clear now.
Mario Barrios is the underdog and will have done his homework on Ryan Garcia’s loss against Rolly Romero last year and comes into this fight with a clear mind and strong mentality.
It looks to us if you go through some of the Ryan Garcia training footage, much of it even, he’s training for power.
He is really trying to through with venom and spite in the shots and is training for power.
Very good.
This can work to Mario Barrios’ advantage though if Garcia loads up on shots too much and goes for overkill on the power side from round one.
Two-fold.
How?
Well, he’s open for the counters obviously for one if he’s swinging wildly or not sticking to his boxing as he should.
Two, from a stamina perspective and gas tank regard, it could tire Garcia out early on.
If he keeps loading up on shots it will only effect the gas tank round by round and surely Barrios will be well rested by the time of fight and ready to go to war for the duration.
He usually is.
Power punching is great and obviously fans appreciate the big exchanges and so on but professional boxing is about hitting and not getting hit.
While still be exciting for paying fans and landing solid, effective, damaging physical punches to the opponent.
Barrios can be smart here and use things from Garcia against him if he wants to.
Conor Benn has said he thinks Barrios can shock the world and knock out Ryan Garcia going into the fight this weekend.
While that might be a big call, to underestimate Mario Barrios would be a very silly thing to do.
Mario Barrios has no pressure on him going into this weekend either way.
