Stephen Espinoza appears to be in deep trouble now.
The former Showtime head has found himself being targeted by some of the most powerful people in the world now.
As boxing legend and US sports legend Floyd Mayweather begins proceedings against him due to an alleged $340 million not granted to him.
Espinoza has responded by telling Compas on the Beat:
“Um, I have not seen the paperwork. Um, you know, and I’ve been in touch with attorneys obviously. I’ve seen the reports. I’ve seen the descriptions. And as usual, the attorneys don’t want me out there publicly saying it, um, you know, so I can’t talk about the specifics of that but look, I just say as a general statement.”
He added:
“Um, you know, my reputation… I’ve spent my entire career representing fighters, making sure they were getting paid appropriately. I did that from Oscar. Did for Mike. Have done that for every fighter who’s developed under Showtime and I’m proud of my reputation. It is one of integrity and never done anything to make sure fighter got less… out every penny that he deserved.”
He continued:
“So, you know, lawsuit will take care of itself. I can’t really address it. But, um, I think you guys know my reputation and I stand by that.”(
When asked about his long working relationship with Mayweather and if he’s disappointed:
“I’m definitely disappointed and surprised. Uh, you know, haven’t talked to him about it. Uh, you know, not sure exactly where it’s coming from but it’s, um, it’s a mystery in a lot of ways.”
So long.
Floyd Mayweather is one of the most celebrated American boxers of the last thirty years or so and is an American institution as one of the great fighters from the United States of all time.
Espinoza has not been really seen or heard of much in boxing in recent years anyway.
Here’s the facts on what we know Espinoza does now in boxing:
- Former role: President of Showtime Sports (promoted in 2018; led boxing and combat sports programming since joining in 2011).
- Departure from Showtime: Laid off in October 2023 when Paramount Global shut down the entire Showtime Sports division.
- Time since leaving boxing exec role: Approximately 2 years and 4 months (as of February 2026).
- Current status: No longer in a full-time executive role in boxing broadcasting; referred to as “former Showtime Sports president” in recent coverage.
- Current activities (that are known of to us at least):
- Operates through SJE Advisors (media consulting, business advisory, content, and live event management).
- Has done (apparently) unofficial consulting/advisory work for Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), including helping with their transition to Amazon Prime Video production in 2024.
- Involved in ventures outside boxing: apparently a part-owner of soccer club Querétaro Los Gallos in Mexico — participant in a pro golf league/tournament for retired athletes.
No indication of returning to a major boxing broadcasting executive position.
So, all in all, we don’t exactly see him coming back to boxing anytime soon after this from one of boxing’s and American’s sporting legends Floyd Mayweather.
