Mario Barrios despite being WBC welterweight world champion remains a big underdog next month in the big fight against Ryan Garcia in a huge fight and event for the sport.
Ryan Garcia although very out of sorts in the last year or so and lately in training remains a big name particular in American boxing and professional boxing in the sport worldwide.
The sport is in a good place in internationally and in the US as well and both Barrios and Garcia are based there so this makes it a big fight in the US specifically.
Garcia coming into this fight has been a bit brash and maybe over confident but he is coming off a bad fight last time out against Rolly Romero last year.
Not a good fight for Ryan Garcia where he lost on points to Romero in a world title fight.
He has gone straight back in at world title level and Barrios is going to be very motivated for this fight, even though an underdog.
That said, underdog tags mean little.
Certainly often in professional sport and professional boxing.
The sport of boxing remains a great sport and is only going to new levels all the time. Nothing or no one will stop this.
Barrios must be aware of a few things with Ryan Garcia such as:
– His fast hands and speed.
– His movement can be good at times when he sticks and moves after firing off combinations.
– He can hit a bit and even though at welterweight Garcia’s power is not to be underestimated.
– At the same time Garcia is erratic lately and this can be exploited by Barrios.
– Garcia appears to be a little over confident for us and his working relationship with his promoter hasn’t been great.
Just some things to be aware of for Barrios who will come into this fight looking to bounce back a bit himself.
He took on Manny Pacquiao last time out in a great fight for fans but at the end of the day it was scored a frustrating draw.
After watching the fight back and most people who watched it would say the same, we thought Pacquiao deserved to get the decision.
Barrios as a result will look to do great things in this fight and this year to impress boxing fans and everyone in the sport again.
He has a big height reach as well over Garcia and this is something that can’t just be discounted by Barrios against Garcia.
