We have been expressing our concerns for Teofimo Lopez like others for a while now and this week is the latest strange behavior from him on fight week.
He appears to be a shell of his former self lately.
Lopez is all over the place in the build up to the Shakur Stevenson fight. Stevenson clearly the more cool and calm customer, ready to bust up Lopez.
Lopez appears to be in the gym with strange Halloween masks in January, maybe he didn’t get the memo Halloween was last October — this is strange:
So long. That’s it for him.
Even people in his own gym in the background laughing at him there.
He is quite possibly in for a cold dose of reality shortly. Shakur Stevenson will take him out of the equation according to many at the moment.
Ahead of the fight Lopez has claimed he runs New York. Very well.
Stevenson from New Jersey however is a more measured, professional approach, intent on simply outboxing, busting up and doing as much damage to Lopez as possible while getting paid.
There is a difference in levels at the highest level of professional boxing for us and although Lopez has a good trainer, his class act father Lopez senior, the same cannot be said for Lopez junior lately.
Stevenson is the man in form with the fan base in both New Jersey and New York behind him this week.
Not Lopez.
Lopez is only talking himself into more of an almighty beating on Saturday from Stevenson for us on the balance of things.
Stevenson comes across as calculated. Precise. But anything can happen on fight night of course.
Stevenson wants to be a true great and he has the platform to continue to try to do that this weekend.
Like any fight, may the best man win but we can’t help get the sense that Lopez is a bit in over his head with Shakur Stevenson this week and he knows it.
