Ireland’s Callum Walsh may have been a bit tough on himself after his latest fight on Friday night at the Apex on Paramount Plus.
It was the first time the UFC and Paramount Plus showed a big professional boxing card together. Walsh boxed well over all and got the win by UD on points.
But had to come through some fire and suffered a knockdown where he was forced to touch the canvas.
The bout was also shown on all the major digital channels for the UFC. Not just UFC Fight Pass. They are going all in now on boxing and are using everything to promote and show their professional boxing events.
Boxing literally can’t lose now. Checkmate.
Back to Walsh.
He didn’t have it all his own way in the fight and that is a good thing. That’s what professional boxing is all about and that’s what fans want to see.
They want to see prospects in tough fights and that’s what he was in again. Back to back straight after boxing and defeating Fernando Vargas’ son as well.
He will have learned to box under big pressure again but this time as a main event on a large event on something as big as Paramount Plus and the UFC’s YouTube channel and websites.
He will be more mindful surely of his defense as well moving forward. In terms of what is coming back at him and not over committing and being wide open for counters sometimes.
No need to rush his boxing. He can still keep that same style and show more urgency in his work if he stays more relaxed and lets his hands go.
He has is the master of his destiny.
Not Freddie Roach.
Not anyone else.
He has a good manager in Tom Loeffler and a great promoter in White and the UFC and can go as for as he wants.
If he uses Friday as a big learning fight and goes back over the fight on Monday.
