Is there Deontay Wilder KO power left at the highest level of professional boxing? We think so — here’s why.
First off Deontay Wilder made a successful stoppage win return to the sport in 2025.
Granted it was a low key small hall show but it sold out and he got the job done inside the distance. He opted to use more boxing and took his time in the bout as well for a change.
He also during fight week had to deal with a last minute change of trainer. That is disruptive for anyone. He contended with the excellently and won the bout by TKO.
There is an old saying and it is very true in boxing and that’s the last thing to go in a fighter is the punching power.
It never really goes actually until someone gets old but Wilder is not that. Wilder is now saying he is actually back in his prime.
Later this summer he is due to take on Oleksandr Usyk for the heavyweight championship of the world and that will be put to the test.
Talks also suggest before that he will take on Derek Chisora of the UK whom will also test that.
Wilder in his boxing career has shown wild power at times but when he wants to does have a good jab and can box. Despite claims he can’t.
You don’t receive an Olympic medal for the USA and win the WBC heavyweight championship of the world without being able to box.
But power of course is his main strength and one he must play to this year while being intelligent with it. Intelligent aggression and power could be a potent mix for him.
Now that he’s got all the knowledge he has at this point in professional sport and life. He is in a good place we think mentally and spiritually.
We think he has plenty of punching power of left for many of the above factors to take into account.
