There has been some Canelo power loss claims in terms of his ability to punch since the Terence Crawford fight. Let’s look at that.
Alvarez lost on points in September of last year to the brilliant Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford who outpointed him by UD up at super-middleweight, a weight Crawford was moving up to.
Two weight divisions no less, making the feat quite brilliant.
Many thought going into it Alvarez would blast out the smaller Crawford with the size of him but not the case.
Crawford mostly wasn’t there to be hit and showed great defense at times when he had to, as well as slick boxing, bravery and outstanding ring generalship and footwork as well.
It was one of Crawford’s best fights he’s ever had and Crawford is one of the best boxers that ever lived. That’s all. That’s all it was.
You can’t say because of that Canelo lost his punch, we’ve never heard of an elite level world champion and pound for pound rated boxer losing his punching power.
Alvarez is not old either and one thing to understand is Alvarez has shown not to be particularly effective at super-middleweight (168 pounds) previously.
However at middleweight he has shown to have brutal knockout power, and at super-welterweight previously before that for quite a long time.
The middleweight division we believe suits him more and if he fights there and does the weight properly and doesn’t kill himself to make the weight and dehydrate himself (much), he’ll be able to crack heads at 160 pounds and then some we believe.
He has shown it before and will be will rested by the time he is back this year.
For us Canelo must make the move to middleweight again this year.
