Americans have long grown tired of the now out of favor ESPN sportscaster Stephen A. Smith but ESPN still remain a good network and company in parts.
It wasn’t long ago that Conor McGregor of the UFC literally had to come and literally save ESPN’s collapsing ESPN plus app in its early days from totally collapsing.
That is his power, he literally saved the biggest and most powerful sports network and sports media company in the world from its new app from falling flat on its face at the time.
It is not surprising to us you never see McGregor talking with the woeful Stephen A. Smith — ESPN will fire or move on from incompetent Smith soon anyway and is still relevant as a network.
The network contrary to popular belief is not gone from boxing at all.
What is ESPN’s role in boxing now
They got rid of Dan Rafael a few years back now from their boxing online stuff and also recently were very happy to see the back of Bob Arum whom they sent packing last year.
Many boxers and others in boxing have already followed ESPN from getting away from Arum as an individual.
Moreover, ESPN Fight Nights are actually still showing great live boxing coverage in America and did so again recently on their outstanding Fight Nights program with one of Manny Pacquiao’s promotional fight cards in the US.
They are still bigger than ever in Mexico and Latin America as well often showing professional boxing live throughout Mexico and many parts of South America as well.
ESPN are very smart people though, they know boxing is hot right now and will be much hotter this year as a popular sport again.
The UFC and Zuffa are now promoting boxing actively too and have already signed major fighters, of course ESPN will do more in boxing in the US at some point.
Rest assured. Everyone wants to be a part of boxing’s success but not everyone can be, unfortunately.
ESPN could strategically come in and buy some fights here and there for their online app or do something more proper with someone else shortly.
They still play a good role in boxing and all their documentaries online, most of them, are excellent on boxing and can offer great education to new fans of boxing on the sport’s great history on YouTube — we highly encourage you to check some of them out if you are new to boxing.
