Will Haney fight the Garcia Barrios winner this year? We think he should and it is possible but there are obstacles.
Yes, we think so, here’s why.
The first obvious obstacle however is Ryan Garcia getting past Mario Barrios. This is not guaranteed at all.
Mario Barrios is the WBC welterweight champion of the world and is coming off a controversial fight last year against a boxing legend in Manny Pacquaio.
He drew the fight and will want to make good on that in terms of doing better and showing he is deserved WBC welterweight champion.
He takes on Ryan Garcia now on February 21st which has now been confirmed in a huge fight, Garcia being one of the biggest names in US boxing out of active fighters in the sport.
The winner will surely be in line to take on new WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney next up.
That rematch though with Garcia is the big one, between him and Haney. Garcia knocked Haney out when they last fought but it was changed to a no contest after Garcia was found to have trace amounts of a banned substance at the time in his system.
Will Haney fight the Garcia Barrios winner?
The fight is bigger than ever now and the disdain they have for one another is only increased and more immense than ever.
They are big names with old and new boxing fans alike and are big names in America and the whole story line only makes for a huge rematch.
What’s more, if Garcia was to defeat Barrios it would be a unification fight of the WBC and WBO world titles at welterweight (147 pounds as well).
The whole thing is lining up for a huge rematch between them this year, so yes, we think it will happen.
Ryan Garcia however appears to be focused on beating up streamers like here — so he’ll need to stay focused.
