Jack Dempsey Might Have Been Around Canelo'S Weight In Today'S Times

When you look at today’s fighters at the highest level of professional boxing like Canelo Alvarez and others some stuff has changed, much hasn’t.

What really has changed in the modern day professional boxing era is two things.

The move to the internet for the sport and sports science in professional boxing.

On the latter, fighters are much bigger physically then what they were nowadays and maybe that is the case for all professional sport as well these days.

heavyweights of today’s times are giants compared to the heavyweights of back in the day, they are taller and outweigh them and possibly hit harder in general.

Although the quality of them may not be as good as what they were some will claim as years ago like Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Mike Tyson and others.

Even if you go back to Irish American Jack Dempsey’s days as a heavyweight champion when he used to fill out stadiums in America and had legendary fights with the likes of Jess Willard, he was a very small heavyweight even back then.

He might have been around only five feet nine and roughly around the same size as Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford in today’s times, who recently fought at super-middleweight in a vintage fight that saw Crawford conquer all of boxing and sport.

New fans to boxing might not be too aware of this at the moment who are just tuning into the sport lately from influencer fights, Jake Paul fights or maybe from the UFC starting to promote boxing lately.

Dempsey was a feared, iron chinned fighter and a real knockout artist despite his lack of size, Mike Tyson called him one of the most vicious boxers that ever lived.

Dempsey went from street fighting to prize fighting in the times of the 1930s or so, around that period, quite well, when boxing was still the gentlemen’s sport, maybe more barbaric in the ring but less trash talk outside of it compared to today’s times.
