If you want to deal with a genius be prepared to deal with the brutal consequences. A genius can simply toy with you and take you out of the equation whenever he wants. At the drop of a hat.
They can be lethal and devastating to say the least.
Mexico and Puerto Rico have produced a few, true, boxing geniuses over the years. Obviously.
Mexico of course will always be one of boxing’s long term great partner nations in the sport having produced an incredible amount of world champions.
After the US, Mexico has produced the second most world champions in professional boxing history. More than the uK, Japan, the Philippines usually next in the all time list.
But lately Mexico has not done as well in professional boxing as it usually does, very strangely.
The Mexican vs Puerto Rican Rivalry Is Dead
Hard to explain why.
These things happen in boxing with ups and downs of fighters and countries and so on in the natural fight life cycle.
For instance it wasn’t long ago that the UK had something like 15 active world champions in professional boxing or something very impressive like that, then, to having virtually none at all.
Mexico is bringing through a lot of excellent professional prospects at the moment but just at world championship level now as much, the US and some other nations are leading the way in that a bit now.
When that happens, the old Mexico vs Puerto Rico suffers ever so slightly.
Mexico’s current ‘Numero Uno’ Canelo Alvarez lost recently to Terence Crawford in a super fight earlier this year in Las Vegas.
For now that has slightly dampened professional boxing in Mexico but not by much.
It wasn’t long ago that there was loads of great rivalries with Puerto Rico from Migeul Cotto vs Antonio Margarito to many others.
The two countries have a rivalry in boxing for many years but are mostly friends away from boxing and professional sport but with boxing due to return to the masses shortly, hopefully fight organizers can in a healthy competitive way only, get the old rivalry going again by matching Mexican prospects against Puerto Rican prospects.
Something maybe not done as much lately, the result is usually always great fights for fans and stars in the making for both countries, accordingly.
