The Most Underrated Division in Boxing (Hint: It’s Not Heavyweight)

The Most Underrated Division In Boxing

Everyone knows about boxing’s biggest and most hard hitting division of the heavyweights of course.

It will always be the crown jewel of the sweet science and the entire sport.

It represents the pinnacle prize for prize fighters (professional boxers) to compete for at the highest level of the sport (pro boxing) in terms of fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world.

But it is not everything of course.

If you go back to the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao eras of the sport they changed everything in this regard.

They brought big money into the smaller weight classes that was on the same level and in Mayweather’s case, much more money, than even the heavyweight champion was getting.

The Most Underrated Division in Boxing

They did that in the welterweight division (147 pounds) of course.

This weight class has continued to garner recognition since their time and will continue to always do so.

In many ways it is boxing’s number two division after heavyweights and in today’s times — it is buzzing again.

The likes of Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Mario Barrios, conor Benn and many new names and young fighters populate the class now.

So much so, Manny Pacquiao is back in the division himself at nearly 47 soon still challenging and fighting the best.

One Floyd Mayweather may as well don the gloves one last time some say for a rematch with Pacquiao in or near the division as well.

Like his uncle Roger said one time — most people don’t know s*** about boxing.
