Lately there has been a real uptick in one organization’s belt in pro boxing been thrown in the bin by many champions in recent times.
That’s the World Boxing Organization’s world title belt.
Oleksandr Usyk the king of heavyweight boxing vacated it recently and said nothing when doing so as well.
The WBO commented on it with the standard ‘thanks Usyk etc. etc.’ line but Usyk said nothing, he just got rid of it.
Sometimes saying nothing says more than words ever can.
He wasn’t alone however.
Why Are So Many Big Name Boxers Vacating The WBO Belt Lately
There has been other champions doing similar in recent times and it asks the question what is going on with the WBO specifically out of the four belt organizations.
To clarify for those new to the sport, the four main world titles and recognized world championship belts are the WBO, the WBO, the WBA and the IBF.
WBC – World Boxing Council
WBA – World Boxing Association
IBF – International Boxing Federation
WNO – World Boxing Organization
It makes some fans ask the question of are the sanctioning fees to high that some of these organizations are charging fighters and their teams where now fighters and their teams often pick and choose simply what belt organizations they want to work with moving forward.
The WBC are more or less recognized as by far the biggest and best world title to basically have for any world champion at the moment.
They are the biggest world title organization anyway.
More and more it is getting more challenging for fighters to keep all four belts and unify as small name opponents for mandatory contenders to fight big name champions are not what fans or the sport wants to see.
The sport and fans want to see champions fight other champions all the time so the consumer and general public knows who is the best champion and fighter oer weight class is.
This is something that can be looked at shortly with new organizations and government coming to professional boxing.
