Boxing might be going some good changes with new players, companies and governments onboarding but there are some things that will never change. Ever.
That’s in the boxing ring where it counts of course. And in the gym where fighters put in the blood, sweat and tears and sacrifice away from the limelight.
Boxing’s traditions ring through and are steadfast and ironclad since the beginning, iron clad, and will never change.
Train with those you know you best, listen to those that have achieved before and focus always on the fight at hand.
A fighter is only as good as his last fight at the end of the day, that’s the reality of professional boxing.
Conor Benn at the weekend just gone proved his latest fight to be one of his best.
He did something else as well though.
The Oldest Saying In Boxing Proved True Again
The saying it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog was proved correct again.
He was boxing up at middleweight, again, two weight classes above his usual welterweight and absolutely controlled the fight and did
what he want in the bout.
That is the most important thing for a professional fighter to do in training and in the fight, what they want, not what others want.
Benn achieved this by imposing his gameplan on the bigger foe and even dropped him twice in the contest.
Winning a wide UD in the fight, even though he was outsized, he showed as well that weight cuts for some fighters, like Eubank Jr, are not good.
Alas, this can never be questioned about Chris Eubank Jr though.
This was Conor Benn’s night however.
Full credit to him.
Big things ahead.
