Boxing Fans React To Bivol Meeting Fedor

Dmitry Bivol the light-heavyweight kingpin in professional boxing met one of the greatest combat sports fighters that ever lived.

That is Fedor Emelianenko of Russia.

He went on a wild unbeaten streak for many years in MMA (mixed martial arts) in Pride in Japan and went further than most in the sport.

His ability to fight stand up and his boxing in MMA was very unorthodox, unpredictable and explosive.

Clearly, MMA and boxing continue to grow closer together as sports all the time for many reasons.

Not least the UFC and Paramount, with a new multi billion dollar deal in boxing and MMA, as well as Netflix, DAZN, Amazon Prime Video, BBC in the UK, and many more, all now promoting boxing.

Boxing is alive and well but it will go to the moon as a sport soon enough, hold on and standby.

As for those in boxing that might not be familiar with some of Fedor’s links to the sweet science, here’s a quick update and brief run through:

  • Trained under boxing coach Alexander Michkov for MMA power punches like hooks.
  • Popularized the “Russian hook” casting punch in MMA, blending boxing and sambo.
  • Combat Sambo roots fused boxing footwork with grappling for hybrid striking.
  • Demonstrates MMA boxing basics in videos, like hand guards and weight transfer.
  • Rumored for 2025 Cro Cop exhibition boxing match.

Whether or not that Tyson fight happens in boxing remains to be seen.

Particularly now as Mike Tyson is apparently taking on Floyd Mayweather in a boxing exhibition in 2026.
