Don King Wins Sudden Purse Bid For Kubrat Pulev WBA ‘Regular’ Heavyweight Title Bout

Heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria shocked and suddenly came back into the heavyweight title picture recently in big time boxing.

Alas, that’s what boxing can do at times, certainly heavyweight boxing.

He did so by beating German Manuel Charr in December 2024 in Sofia, Bulgaria which was for the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title last December.

Now, all of a sudden, Lance Pugmire on the X platform is reporting that Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene says one boxing promoter called Don King has won a purse bid for $1.1 million for Pulev to face American Michael Hunter.

This summer on August 23rd in the US.

As they point out, that’s around the same time as it happens of King’s birthday – who will be 94 years young.

Not many know that old school boxing promoters Bob Arum and Don King (life long competitors) are both actually currently 93 at the moment and still involved in boxing.

An unexpected sudden bit of news to add another couple of fighters into the mix of big fights later this year after August.

The winner in August likely will have a chance at getting a shot at the winner of Usyk and Daniel Dubois this summer but let’s see what happens.
