Janibek Alimkhanuly is targeting Canelo Alvarez, and he might have a better chance than you think.
The man from Kazakhstan has been doing more than alright in recent years around middleweight and super-middleweight in recent years.
Some controversial drug testing though but he is apparently looking at a Canelo fight soon.
Notes on this right off the bat;
- Janibek views his current title as a stepping stone to Canelo
- He looks to be focusing only on Canelo payday
- Southpaw stance has historically given Canelo problems
- Sharp counters and footwork puzzle stationary fighters like Alvarez
- He has championship seasoning for the big stage
- Southpaw angle neutralizes Canelo’s power counters
- At 36, Canelo’s gas tank can’t keep up with Janibek’s legs
- Janibek has adapted smoothly to the higher weight class
- He has enough about him at this point to push a fading Canelo
- A fight for Canelo would be a nightmare due to Janibek’s awkward movement
Canelo Alvarez is taking on Christian Mbilli soon first off but after this, maybe this might make sense.
There is a school of thought that says Canelo is on the decline at the moment also.
If he gets to Canelo soon, he could be catching him at the right time soon.
