O’Shaquie Foster‘s elite distance control and defensive mastery make him a nightmare for anyone, but Shakur Stevenson is a completely different puzzle. Can Foster’s calculated approach solve boxing’s purest technician, or is Stevenson simply too sharp?
He called Stevenson out lately after a big victory in the sport.
Stevenson is flying high though in boxing after his outstanding victory over Teofimo Lopez recently but that is not the case anymore.
Stevenson has since chickened out of the Devin Haney fight recently and is being hammered around the globe still for not signing a fight.
He is fast thought of at this point as a guy that ducks tough fights in the sport, is Shakur Stevenson.
Foster represents a tough fight for him, but some notes on this regarding Stevenson;
- Foster’s entire game is built on controlling range with his jab
- Stevenson is even better at the same game — and that’s the problem
- Stevenson’s footwork makes him nearly impossible to pin down
- Foster has never faced anyone with Stevenson’s ring generalship
- Stevenson already dominated elite distance fighters like Herring and Valdez
- Foster’s jab could backfire badly against a sharp counter-puncher
- Stevenson is noticeably quicker in and out of range
- Foster’s best chance is to pressure, but that’s not his instinct
- Fighting his usual game means Stevenson outclasses him
- This is the toughest stylistic matchup of Foster’s entire career
That said, if Foster boxes to his best, he can absolutely compete in some departments against Stevenson.
It is not an easy fight for Stevenson, that is if Stevenson even signed to take the fight.
Boxing is doing great but Shakur Stevenson is clearly not in a good place mentally in life at the moment in all the ducking of fights recently.
Something is more than up in him, that is certain.
Boxing legend James Toney hammered Shakur Stevenson also recently, very rightly so too.
Overall, Foster is a tough fight for him if Stevenson opted for it.
