Devin Haney is one of the most avoided boxers in the entire sport for good reason.
He does so much excellently maybe minus being able to say he does anything truly outstanding in any technical boxing department.
If you are to analyze the strengths of the American boxer at the same time you’d have to say his accuracy in there and his ability to control distance at times can be excellent.
He is economical sometimes in his punch output but is not wasteful in his punch output that can impress the judges on scorecards often.
The punches landed this go more noticed and he can have a stinging jab and great right cross at times.
If he is to be truly a bigger star than he already is in America, he needs to play to his strengths like this.
He is never going to be some big one punch knockout artist or some blistering fast hands Ray Leonard style combinations dazzler in his hand speed.
He has solid hand speed though, can put together solid combinations at times and can if he lands right and breaks opponents down, get them out of there.
He impressed a lot in the move to 147 pounds against Brian Norman Jr, a boxer from the US as tough as they come, a former champion that has since bounced back a bit since.
Haney looks much better up at 147 pounds and any new strength he has must be cautioned in still keeping his eye on the ball and doing the things he does good a bit better.
That is key to him, keep getting more accurate and precise in his combinations, use of the jab, and his power shots.
Keep bringing a fight to the distance that suits him best if on the outside or at middle distance, pending on the opponent he is facing and the type of fight he is.
Haney can do that impressively at times and he needs a consistent trainer from here on in.
If Devin Haney can do these things his star and name is only going to get bigger in America and beyond.
Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis turning down offers to fight him recently proof again of him being on the up in boxing at this time.
