Dana White is a boxing promoter this year but he is all over the place and made some sinister remarks.
A fighter in the UFC died the other day on Monday and he celebrated it smoking a cigar saying it had been a great day.
Some notes here on his decline this year;
- Posted “Great day” with a cigar hours after sharing a fighter’s death announcement.
- Ego out of control — former fighters say he’s switched off from the UFC.
- Brushes off media with “Who gives a s—?” instead of answering questions.
- Zuffa Boxing debut flopped — called “low energy” and “average” by insiders.
- Admitted he was “not thrilled” with his own boxing event.
- Personal feuds with rival promoters overshadow his actual product.
- Told people to handle mental health “behind closed doors” — widely slammed.
- Copies old boxing models instead of innovating as promised.
- Lacks hunger — UFC cards are weaker, stars are fewer under his watch.
- More ego than results — boxing venture so far fails to deliver.
Dana has not anywhere near the amount of signing to boxing that he promised.
The cards he is doing are tiny and some of the action is good, sure, but the names are tiny.
Nobody knows who many of his stable are.
Some other things;
- Shakur Stevenson is the only pound-for-pound superstar Zuffa Boxing has signed
- Conor Benn, Jai Opetaia, Richardson Hitchins, and Edgar Berlanga are solid but not mainstream draws
- Roster of 93 fighters is packed with unproven prospects and journeymen
- Another in decline promoter Eddie Hearn mocked Zuffa shows for weak cards and tiny crowds – including a Sunday show with 126 people in attendance
- No Canelo, Crawford, Joshua, Fury, or Davis on the roster – true elite names are with other promoters
- Also in decline promoter Bob Arum warned the UFC-style model will lower fighter pay and push top names away
- Roy Jones Jr said White is spoiling a few fighters with big bags but the overall structure hurts the sport
- Stevenson wants Tank and Haney – but Zuffa hasn’t proven it can make cross-promotion megafights happen
- Cards so far lack genuine super-fights and commercial attraction
- Despite big talk, White’s boxing venture still looks like a one-man show with Stevenson as the only headline name
The above remains the case for him at the end of the day.
Shocking stuff to see him make those remarks about a dead professional fighter.
Fighters and certainly many boxers will have nothing to do with him after that.
