Options Next For Edgar Berlanga After Getting Up To Defeat Butler

Edgar Berlanga of Ne York had a great victory in Sunday night boxing on Paramount Plus and is line for interesting fights next.

He displayed heart to get up off the canvas to come back and defeat Steven Butler in round 7 in their 168 pounds bout.

An entertaining bout that puts him in line for exciting fights next up in the division.

Here are possible options next for Berlanga, the big hitting Puerto Rican-American;

  • Hamzah Sheeraz (Rematch) – The champ who beat him; wants unification revenge.
  • Jaime Munguia – A current titleholder; big Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry.
  • Chris Eubank Jr. – His preferred immediate choice; wants it in London.
  • Caleb Plant – Long-talked-about U.S. grudge match (if Plant un-retires).
  • Jermall Charlo – Name he’s called out, but inactivity is an issue.
  • Osleys Iglesias – Another current champ; mentioned but not a top push.
  • Canelo Alvarez (Rematch) – Huge money fight, but unlikely soon.
  • David Benavidez – Old rivalry, though Benavidez is now at light heavyweight.
  • Jermell Charlo – Another Charlo brother on his wish list.

Bottom line: Berlanga is aiming for title shots and big paydays.

But some critics say his uneven performance against Butler means he may need one more strong win before landing a true elite opponent.

That said, he has fought the likes of Canelo already so has mixed near the highest level of the sport.

Edgar Berlanga can mix there again immediately.

Butler proved to be a fight he should have defeated Butler in easier. The fact he got knocked down in is shocking.

Berlanga is there to be hit but can hit himself, that makes him entertaining.
