Word on the boxing streets is that Oleksandr Usyk is having major problems and could be close to hanging up the gloves.
The current heavyweight champion of the world stank the joint out recently in a fight against kickboxing champion Rico.
He nearly lost it up until a stoppage he pulled out of the bag near the end of the fight.
Connecting an uppercut on the back foot to avoid the biggest upset in professional boxing and professional sport history.
Literally.
Sergey Lapin his incompetent advisor has claimed that fans may now have seen Usyk fight for the last time.
Lapin comes across as a character hard to take seriously to say the least.
How he advised Usyk in the last fight and now to possibly take a fight against someone no one has heard of outside of boxing is deplorable.
Boxing is flying high as a sport and is returning to the masses all time based on quality of matchups that people want to see.
That is why boxing is doing well again and why it will continue to do so this summer and into the future.
Usyk had played a part in that before but appears to have turned to some sort of dark side with taking poor fights lately.
Usyk is not bigger than boxing.
People are hammering him again worldwide for talking about fighting Agit Kabayel.
No one will let Usyk off the hook with it, including the entire sport of boxing, worldwide, if he and his ‘adviser’ go for that fight.
Usyk became one of the few in history to become undisputed cruiserweight and undisputed heavyweight champion.
That cannot be taken away from him.
He boxed on the road and battered everyone around the world, sure.
In many times in their own home countries.
In what was a very weak heavyweight era though — which must be noted for balance.
You cannot compare Usyk to the likes of Lennox Lewis for instance in that regard.
If Usyk retired tomorrow he gave boxing a lot of entertainment and managed to stay undefeated as well.
But if he has no motivation left then vacate the belts and retire then.
More contenders and young champions are coming through and can fight in the big fights.
With or without the belts, as well, as, they are no longer important anyway.
The fights are.
Let us see what Usyk does next.
