Jake Paul apparently wants Francis Ngannou or Tommy Fury rematch in boxing but it is not clear what is going on with Paul.
As an active professional boxer anymore that is.
He supposedly is almost recovered from a broken jaw following a knockout defeat to former Anthony Joshua before last Christmas.
A fight Paul looked better than expected in and took Joshua six rounds, shockingly, landing punches on the now very faded former heavyweight champion.
Since then though he’s been talking about retirement a lot. Some insight here:
- Jake Paul underwent surgery for two titanium plates after his jaw was broken
- Paul had multiple teeth removed following his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua
- Paul lost to Tommy Fury by split decision in February 2023
- Paul is 10-2 as a professional boxer
- Both of Paul’s losses came against his only opponents with legitimate boxing pedigree
- Paul is 30 years old with multiple hand injuries and a broken jaw
- Paul’s best wins is a decision over Nate Jones and a points win over former middleweight champion Julio Chavez Jr
- The cruiserweight division has legitimate punchers who would expose Paul’s lack of amateur foundation
- Paul has no path to a genuine world title in professional boxing
- Continued competition risks permanent physical damage for diminishing financial reward
That’s the reality of it for Jake Paul.
Besides, he clearly got into boxing and combat sports to be a promoter anyway.
He has since started an MMA promotion as boxing and MMA keep getting closer as sports all the time, he has a boxing promotion as well.
He has been talking about retirement lately as an active pro boxer so it is dangerous for him at this point if his commitment is gone.
Jake Paul has been going off on Conor McGregor again lately — promotion in boxing and MMA is clearly his focus.
Who knows what fights he will be in this year.
