Why Vergil Ortiz Junior might be one of the biggest bogeymen in the entire sport of boxing today.
The Vergil Ortiz junior vs Jaron Ennis fight never happening saga is behind us now.
Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis moves on to a big fight soon enough this summer.
Big hitter Vergil Ortiz junior has yet to properly agree a fight just yet. He’s 24-0-22 KO and has mixed in good class and beat solid fighters in recent years but remains very avoided in boxing. A dangerous fighter.
Some things to note if you’re not familiar here:
- Ortiz Jr. competes in the super welterweight division.
- He possesses exceptional punching power.
- Ortiz Jr. scored early stoppages in his initial pro fights.
- He holds an Interim Super Welterweight title (although it isn’t the title why people watch his fights).
- Ortiz Jr. earned recognition as a top prospect early in his career.
- His power makes him a dangerous opponent for contenders.
- He fights out of Grand Prairie, Texas.
- Ortiz Jr. pressures opponents with heavy body and head shots.
It is a combination of his relentlessness and power that makes him so dangerous in and around his weight.
His promoter as well though Oscar De La Hoya did a terrible job in never making that Jaron Ennis fight.
Vergil Ortiz junior remains possibly De La Hoya’s best fighter outside of the likes of Ryan Garcia but who knows for how long for.
Both could leave at anytime, you never know.
We would like to see Vergil Ortiz junior in a dangerous fight again shortly.
He has fought solid opponents and beaten the likes of Thomas Dulorme, Serhii Bohachuk, Israil Madrimov and Erickson Lubin all since 2024 only as well.
