Claressa Shields all of a sudden has went from one America’s most liked athletes to one of the most disliked recently.
She went from getting standing ovations at major sporting events not long again in America.
To now being banned from boxing events at the MVP events who put on some boxing occasionally on ESPN.
It appears that is was caused by her trying to have some sort of altercation with a women’s boxer.
Shields as the biggest name in women’s boxing surely could do better and this is not a good look for her. Some background on what happened and more:
- MVP (Jake Paul’s promotion) announced an indefinite ban on Claressa Shields from all their events.
- The ban followed an incident at MVP’s MMA event with Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano at Intuit Dome.
- MVP enforced a strict zero-tolerance policy against hostile, threatening, or aggressive behavior.
- Shields was a guest in a private VIP area when the unsanctioned physical altercation occurred.
- The promotion stated physical contact outside of competition is unacceptable at their events.
- MVP said the behavior reflected poorly on the company and women’s sports.
- The ban is immediate with no timeline for possible reinstatement.
- Shields publicly downplayed the ban while criticizing MVP.
- This created a notable fallout between Shields and the growing promotion.
- Overall, this isn’t a good look for Shields.
Shields had been on a high commercially but this harms her brand in the US clearly with the backlash going on and big turn from the people in America against her.
Largely due to:
- The MVP ban makes Shields look hard to work with. U.S. promoters and sponsors now hesitate to partner with her.
- It hurts her image as a professional fighter in America.
- She loses exposure on MVP’s big, growing platform.
- The incident paints her as volatile and unpredictable.
- Family-friendly brands may avoid her as an ambassador.
- Negative headlines reduce her likeability and sales.
- Media and networks see her as a bigger risk.
- Fewer positive interviews and features will come her way.
- Overall, this weakens her personal brand and marketability in America.
Claressa Shields gave Adrien Broner some advise lately recently but it now Shields who needs the advise surely after the big back lash going on since the ban.
No good.
