Daniel Dubois Usyk trilogy still a step too far for  Dubois based on Wardley fight

Daniel Dubois Usyk trilogy

Styles make fights and we look at why the Daniel Dubois Usyk trilogy is still a very challenging fight for Dubois even after the Wardley KO.

Daniel Dubois had his redemption this weekend with a knockout over Fabio Wardley to become two-time heavyweight champion of the world.

He came back from the Usyk defeats and got back up after being knocked down by Wardley to win by stoppage in round 11.

But Usyk is the main champion at the weight still and has beat Dubois twice. Some notes on that for new people to boxing.

Daniel Dubois Usyk trilogy not a good style matchup for Dubois

  • Dubois was dropped by right hook in first 10 seconds vs Wardley
  • Dubois was down again in round 3
  • Dubois called the first knockdown a “flash knockdown”
  • Usyk beat Dubois in July 2025 to win IBF belt back
  • Dubois “came through the sticky moments” vs Wardley
  • Don Charles slapped Dubois twice in corner during fight
  • Dubois needed 11 rounds to stop Wardley despite Wardley’s injuries
  • Wardley had Dubois “on the floor” early
  • Dubois set up “potential trilogy fight against Oleksandr Usyk” with win
  • Usyk is 2-0 vs Dubois as of July 2025
  • Usyk has stopped Dubois twice now, a third time would be very bad for Dubois to come back from in his career
  • Usyk has a counter punching style that catches Dubois when he is not concentrating in rounds
  • Dubois is still getting caught with shots he shouldn’t too regularly, Oleksandr Usyk would exploit this much further

Boxing, what a sport. Unbreakable. Ironclad, steadfast, it is still here and expanding into new markets faster than ever at the moment.

Driven by consumer demand, new companies and big organizations continue to come to boxing and more than anything great fights and much better matchmaking.

Boxing, a great sport but a tiny number of unsavory characters in it to say the least, more of which continue to leave boxing faster and faster all the time in 2026 thankfully.

The sport will continue to move on and prosper without them with great fights like this weekend into the future.
