Errol Spence should retire for health if whooped by Tszyu

Errol Spence should retire for health if he gets whooped by Tim Tszyu in his upcoming comeback fight in 2026 in boxing.

Three years is a long time to be away from professional boxing at the highest level and to just straight back into the deep end into a sport as unforgiving as that is never advisable.

But his bravery however misguided it might be is at least a little bit impressive if not ill advised.

Tim Tszyu is up to speed and at 158 pounds will be strong at their catchweight. Errol Spence should retire for health reasons if he loses badly to him due to the following:

  • 3 years inactive: Last fight was July 29, 2023 vs Crawford. Returns July 2026.
  • Last fight was brutal TKO: Crawford dropped Spence 3 times and stopped him in Round 9.
  • Out-landed badly: Crawford out-landed Spence 185-96 total punches.
  • 2019 Ferrari crash: Car flipped multiple times. Spence was ejected, no seatbelt.
  • ICU stay: Hospitalized in intensive care with facial lacerations. No broken bones.
  • Charged with DWI: Class-B misdemeanor after the 2019 crash. Got probation.
  • Detached retina: Suffered torn left retina in 2021. Pulled out of Pacquiao fight.
  • Only 1 win since eye injury: Beat Ugas in April 2022. That’s his lone win post-retina tear.
  • 36 years old: Turning 36 for Tszyu fight. Tszyu fought 7 times in Spence’s 3-year layoff.
  • Moving up 11 lbs: First fight at 154 lbs after career at 147 lbs.

Ahead of the fight this summer Spence will also have a new trainer in his corner in the form of Ronnie Shields.
