Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh’s golden star has really declined in recent times.
Mainly due to his poor performance and defeats in the ring.
When he turned pro there was much buzz about him being Muhammad Ali’s grandson and all.
Today he is in the US Senate supporting the new Muhammad Ali Revival Act with his grandfather’s name and that’s great of course.
But the bill has already passed anyway and he comes across as some sort of guy trying to get the bill to pass when it is already secured anyway:
““If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything”
That’s good he’s standing for the bill and all but he isn’t needed. The work was already done before his appearance today.
The bill has passed basically and is secured.
It looks like just some PR opportunity for him to use his grandfather’s name today basically as it is called the Muhammad Ali Revival Act and he’s his grandson.
That’s what we took away from proceedings today anyway.
Easy to see.
He said a few things earlier like:
“My name is Nico Ali Walsh. I am a professional boxer and the grandson of Muhammad Ali. I’m here as someone whose name is directly tied to the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act…”
As well as also saying:
“The Ali Act was built on a simple principle: the people controlling fighters should not also control the entire marketplace those fighters depend on. That separation exists to prevent conflicts of interest and exploitation. These are the firewall provisions in the current Act.”
Basically just a PR opportunity for Nico Ali Walsh.
He got a few headlines maybe out of it and we can see through that.
Overall, the bill does marginally improve boxing though and help boxers a little bit.
Maybe it is not a game changer, more of an update to an out of date Muhammad Ali Act, essentially.
As a pro Walsh has already lost twice, had one draw and one no contest in his 17 pro fights.
Far from Muhammad Ali.
