Why Mayweather vs Tyson Is Bigger Than Boxing

Why Mayweather Vs Tyson Is Bigger Than Boxing

There is very few events in boxing that are so big they go outside of the sport.

This Floyd Mayweather vs Mike Tyson exhibition is one of them in April.

Not everyone’s cup of tea in boxing but the masses from around the world who are not boxing or even sports fans are very interested in it.

They will be tuning in.

The fight being in Africa is unusual and a big move as well.

Culturally for the sport the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ in Zaire some years ago now between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali remains one of the iconic moments of the entire sport.

One of the great fights between boxers of years gone by and to this day remains a vintage night for boxing.

All of Africa came alive with chants of (in English) ‘Ali, kill him, kill him.’

He rope-a-doped Foreman and ultimately took him out when he wanted.

Fast forward all these years and boxing is back in Africa in the Congo this April.

For Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson’s exhibition.

Both boxers and their teams must go outside of boxing and sport and think bigger in their marketing of this event, this is something that people from around the world who don’t even watch boxing and sport will be interested in.

Due to their names, it being in Africa and even the size difference between Mayweather and Tyson as well.
