Some facts on the Ryan Garcia injury.
He got the win on UD over Mario Barrios and boxed a disciplined fight for the most part.
Even dropping Barrios at one point.
But he still looked nothing compared to what he did years ago and is clearly a fighter in decline since the Rolly Romero loss.
Many boxers said the same and he came nowhere near the round 9 stoppage of Mario Barrios stoppage he predicted before hand.
After the fight, here’s what we know on the hand injury:
- Garcia hurt his right hand during the fight, as confirmed by his father/trainer Henry Garcia in a mid-round (around Round 9) interview on the DAZN broadcast.
- The injury occurred mid-fight, explaining why Garcia slowed his pace in later rounds and relied more on his left hand despite early success with the right (including the Round 1 knockdown).
- In his post-fight interview, Garcia admitted hurting his right hand, saying it prevented a knockout despite rocking Barrios multiple times and calling the performance a “masterclass” but self-grading lower for not finishing.
- Despite the issue, Garcia’s right hand was surprisingly effective early — a departure from his usual left-hook focus — and he landed it powerfully before the problem arose.
- The hand issue likely contributed to no stoppage in a dominant unanimous decision win (e.g., 119-108, 120-107, 118-109), saving Barrios from a potential KO as Garcia couldn’t fully push with full power late.
The fight was a good one ultimately but not a perfect one for Ryan Garcia tonight.
We think he is in decline and many others in boxing do but the acid test will be a big rematch with Devin Haney or a fight with the likes of Shakur Stevenson.
