He can try.
Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford retired recently as the undefeated pound for pound best boxer of his time.
Post the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao era.
Jermell Charlo the former world 168lbs. champion returns soon and has said he wished Crawford would unretire so he can fight him.
Crawford only fought that time at 168lbs. in the recent Canelo Alvarez UD win in September 2025 in Vegas.
We think Crawford stays retired.
That said, let’s a took a look.
At what if anything Charlo can possibly offer Crawford (anything less than $200 million to return to boxing — Crawford should not even entertain):
Here are the only realistic (but still very long shot) things that could tempt Terence Crawford out of retirement for a Jermell Charlo fight:
- Guaranteed purse of $200 million+ (far beyond his Canelo payday)
- Massive PPV points + guaranteed minimum that dwarfs his previous earnings
- Huge legacy incentive (e.g., undisputed at 154 lbs or historic cross-era narrative)
Everything else (respect debates, “best black brother” talk, fan pressure, smaller money) won’t move him—he’s repeatedly said he’s done and at peace.
Basically he has already secured his legacy right now Crawford.
He’s already one of the greatest of all time for us.
He beat everyone and moved through the weights unlike any — in terms of going all the way up to super-middleweight compared to where he started.
The furthest Mayweather, a similar size all time great, went, was to 154lbs.
Anything less than $200 million is not worth a second of attention to Crawford to get back in a boxing ring.
Undefeated and undisputed is what he will stay as.
Crawford is a quiet character away from boxing but retired as a King and a real killer in the fight game.
Whatever he chooses to do next he will of course be successful at.
