That’s Oleksandr Usyk. He opens all doors himself in the heavyweight division now.
Anyone that wants a shot at him must wait in line. Usyk picks and chooses who he fights and what he wants to do. He has the keys to the heavyweight division and now anyone else.
Some boxing fans were surprised that Usyk chose to fight Deontay Wilder recently and it was out of the blew.
Previously he was mandated to fight Fabio Wardley by the WBO but he sent the WBO packing and vacating the belt. Diminishing the relevance of the WBO and all world title organizations moving forward as well.
The likes of the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF are far less relevant than ever before in boxing due to high profile champions like Usyk, Terence Crawford and now even Shakur Stevenson getting rid of the WBC and blasting them recently.
These are not just regular world champions doing all this. These are in fact some of the premier elite pound for pound champions in the entire sport worldwide in the last decade.
Let that sink in.
So for those to say Usyk should fight this guy, fight that guy, rest assured, Usyk calls the shots.
He knows that.
He’s got his own promotional company now for prospects it looks like mostly in the Ukraine but he should focus on the big companies for himself for his next fights to get him the biggest fights possible.
He can do what he wants of course as the heavyweight King but people like TKO and Zuffa will surely help him get the big fights in America where he seems to want to box in the final stages of his career.
The Wilder fight being only one of them. A big name in the US he is too.
